Dendrobium spectabile

For fans of the funky-flowered types, this one’s for you. Fragrant and distinctive Dendrobium species endemic to New Guinea and surrounding islands. This species is used in the breeding of many a Latouria Den. cross.
Flowers are bewitching—very rewarding to bloom.
Blooms early winter and spring.
Grown from seed.
Plants Available: Growing in 4” and 6” pots. The 6” Pot option currently available is pictured.
Orchid Care: Grow in very bright light in moderately high humidity with good air circulation. Plants may be acclimated to full sun, though some shade is beneficial during the middle hours of the day when the sun is at its strongest, particularly during the summer.
Allow plants to dry slightly between waterings. A dry rest is not strictly necessary, but water and fertilizer should be reduced somewhat in late fall through spring with cooler temperatures and shorter day length.
Plants may be grown potted or mounted, but potting will better accommodate the stature of the plant as it matures. Repot only when plants have put out new roots.
This variety requires a shift in day and night temperatures in order to bloom. Cold snaps in the subtropical/tropical winter help to trigger flowering.
